Banyule-Nillumbik Tech School Sod Turning

On Thursday 17 August 2017, Tectura’s Elizabeth Grigg and Melika Grigg-Baycan joined Deputy Premier and Minister for Education, James Merlino, Vicky Ward MP, Anthony Carbines MP and Melbourne Polytechnic CEO Rob Wood for a sod turning ceremony to mark the beginning of construction on the new Banyule-Nillumbik Tech School.

Due to open in mid-2018, the new Tech School is part of an initiative by the Victorian Department of Education to bridge the gap between secondary and tertiary education; to expose young people to the industries and employment opportunities of tomorrow.


The tech school has been expertly designed to equip students with an innovation mind frame in a rapidly changing global economy, with an emphasis on developing vital science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) skills.


Design elements of the new facilities include briefing and presentation spaces, a collaboration space, wet lab, digital and physical creation spaces and an industry focus area.
