SEYMOUR PIONEERS
MEMORIAL

Dedicated to the pioneers of Seymour, this memorial represents the continuity of life and its phases in time.

The angled ellipse represents the continuous circle of life, while the vertical spaces in the curved bluestone wall constitute a physical metaphor of a lifespan as a series of phases.

The rough cut granite columns—which are remnants of early graves in the area— are positioned in such a way as to emulate the human life cycle, from birth in the east, to maturity and finally death in the west.

The memorial, much like life itself, has no protective roof, exposing the memorial’s components to the elements of nature.
